A Child Is Not an Icon 🌹

Today, as an author, I want to speak about something that has deeply affected me. Parents have been informed by a school about the bullying of a child with autism and ADHD. Photographs were taken of her without her knowledge. Those photographs were turned into icons and shared on social media. A WhatsApp group was also created where the child is mocked and discussed.

I am deliberately not naming the child, the school, the class or the location. She deserves protection. Please do not share the images any further, even to show how wrong this is.

This is not a harmless joke. Taking photographs of a child to ridicule her, mocking her in a group chat and spreading her images must stop.

My message to parents is clear: talk to your children today about what they photograph, share and forward. Teach them not to take part in bullying and to tell a trusted adult when they see it. And to schools I say: protect the child affected and take these warning signs seriously.

We are speaking out to help prevent this from happening again. Behind every icon is a real child.
