The Bird of D’Artagnan

It was only a tree.

A few red berries.

A grey winter sky.

But to him,

it was a kingdom.

He was not seeking war.

He was seeking balance.

Others came.

He pushed them back.

Not out of cruelty.

But out of necessity.

Some confuse protection with aggression.

He did not.

He was simply guarding

what kept him alive.
