“Tradition is the light we carry across the water.”
“even the winter remembers kindness.”
He comes by water,
as he always has.
A silent figure in red,
carrying the memory of our Low Lands
like a lantern in winter hands.
His boat cuts through the mist
of Belgium and the Netherlands,
where rivers whisper
and harbors wait
with the patience of old souls.
He brings no thunder,
no crowns,
no noise.
Only tradition—
woven through centuries,
held together by stories
told at warm tables,
soft lights in cold windows,
and the hope
that goodness still arrives
by nightfall.
The white horse beside him
steps as if it knows
every cobblestone dream
of our little countries.
And maybe it does.
Because Sinterklaas
is not just a man—
He is a bridge
between who we were,
who we are,
and who we pray
our children might become.
A reminder
that kindness travels,
that giving is a language,
and that the smallest nations
can hold the oldest light.
